ETRiS research was presented at the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE 2024), held from 30 June to 5 July 2024.
One study, “Probabilistic Tsunami Evacuation Modeling for City of Catania, Eastern Sicily”, presented an Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) framework for simulating tsunami evacuation in Catania.
The evacuation environment included buildings, open spaces, roads, and shelters, while evacuation probabilities were evaluated under tsunami inundation scenarios derived from Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Analysis. The modeling also considered factors such as population preparedness, age, gender, disabilities, and access to warning alerts.
A second study, “Analytical Tsunami Fragility Assessment of a Reinforced Concrete Frame Using Cloud Analysis”, investigated the use of Cloud Analysis for developing tsunami fragility curves.
The study considered a two-storey reinforced-concrete moment-resisting frame located in Italy and used simulated tsunami inundation scenarios for nonlinear time-history analysis. Tsunami actions included hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces, as well as the influence of breakaway infill walls.
Together, the two studies demonstrate ETRiS developments in probabilistic tsunami evacuation modeling and analytical fragility assessment.
